North Kensington – History & Info
North Kensington is an area between Notting Hill gate and south of Harrow Road. It is one of the major neighbourhoods in the Notting Hill area. When Notting Hill had the Riots in 1958 most of this event took place in North Kensington. The Notting Hill Carnival Started in North Kensington in 1964 and is held over the bank holiday weekend in August each year.
The Notting Hill carnival attracts on average of 2 million people each year and that makes it the largest street carnival in the world.
The now known Ladbroke grove station which is in North Kensington was opened in 1864 and names Notting Hill until 1880, then it was known as Notting Hill & Ladbroke grove until 1919 when it was renamed Ladbroke grove.
Immigrants from all over the world have settled in Ladbroke grove thus making it one of the most cosmopolitan areas in the world.
North Kensington also has one of the largest Moroccan populations in England.
More recently it’s famous for being home to the prime minster David Cameron and his wife Samantha Cameron.
